5 Reasons Why Your Goal Setting Isn’t Yielding Fruit
The dictionary definition of a goal is “the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result”. Goals are essential to your development and success; when you have identified the object of your ambition, you then set a plan towards achieving said objectives. One of the effectiveness of your goal planner to should that it is measurable, ensuring that you are taking daily steps towards achieving the goals. However, if you feel like you’ve been at it for so long and you are not seeing the fruits it should have yielded, you might need to check yourself and your goals again. Some of the reasons why it seems like your goal setting isn’t yielding fruit might be:
You don’t have SMART goals. There are many components to setting goals; many things to take into consideration as well as different attributes and characteristics of the goals. For instance, you’ve planned for long term goals but omitted immediate needs which then stands in the way of working towards the long term goals or perhaps you’ve set goals that are not realistic given your skill set/knowledge or ability e.g planning to be an actuary when you hate everything that has to do with numbers.
You’re not committed to the goals set. Commitment is achievable only when you have set SMART goals. Even when distractions pop up (good or bad) you need to stay committed to your goals as set in your planner or realign accordingly but don’t just go with the flow. Being committed helps you build good habits such as focus, good decision making, and concentration.
You don’t have the tools you need. For starters, are your goals even written down, well laid out into achievable plans? Have you identified what exactly you would need to achieve your goals? There are many resources and tools out there to help you e.g budget planner, notepad apps, life goal planner, accountability partners etc.most of these have free versions but you can also invest in paid ones if they will better suit your needs. You need to understand that without the right tools (whatever they may be), you might not be able to achieve your goals or it might take much longer than it should to arrive at your destination.
You’ve acquired new tastes/interests/goals but you fail to reassess your plan and incorporate it as seamlessly as possible. The only thing constant in life is change.we grow, we mature, we make new friends, visit new sites, come into realization of new skills, strengths etc. if all these are not considered holistically and incorporated into your goals, you might find that you’ll feel like you’re being pulled in different directions.
You’re trying to do it alone. The first answer to whether you need help is usually “no” because you feel like you can go at it alone; after all you know what it takes. But do you really? In the years you’ve been trying to do it alone, how much progress have you made? It might even be that all you need is a friend who is ready to set goals and be committed to achieving them and you can therefore work together holding one another accountable.there is power in agreement and it is important to get this right.
